Art Auction defies COVID-19 in full Melbourne lockdown

by Lee Steer, Aug 25, 2020

Artmarketspace posted  exceptional sell through rates of 115% by value and 82% by lot, at its full  lockdown art auction on August 23rd.

Despite having no public viewing  this auction delivered excellent results for very happy vendors. Six previously  unseen works by contemporary artist John Nixon, who sadly passed away lastweek, sold for multiple estimates and every work found a new home.

Factors that helped the overall  result:

·    Artmarketspace provides  videos online so that buyers can see genuine imagery of the works they were  going to bid on.

·    It was a curated auction  with fresh works to the market, all from private collections.

·    Sensible estimates and  reserves.

·    Artmarketspace’s  automated click and collect system, allowing for contactless delivery door-to-door  at unbeatable delivery prices averaging $50 per work nationally.

Top 3 individual prices were:

Lot 1 James Doolin. Untitled  Colour Field. Oil on canvas (image on next page).
